Child Has Pain In Feet, Right Hand. Why Is It?

My 5 yr old son has been complaining of pins and needles in his feet and just recently his right hand. Sometimes this is just after sitting crossed legged and sometimes just sitting normally. The sensation in his hand occurred after lying awkwardly in bed on his shoulder. He has complained of this over last 2 yrs approximately 20 - 25 times in total from memory.

Pediatrician Dr. Y V Siva Sankara Murty's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

During these 20 to 25 episodes he had was he in any abnormal position or sitting infront of a computer or television for a prolonged period of time?

One need not worry about pins and needles sensation in a limb if it happens only on abnormal position.

But if it happens in normal positions and recurrently (like those multiple episodes you are complaining of) then the child needs complete physical examination and investigations depending on the physical examination findings.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
