Child Has Nose Bleeds, Pink Spots On Chest And Back . Bruised Inner Thigh While Playing. Remedy?

3 year old boy. Platelet count 92. Sever nose bleeds, 3 in 15 hours. Small pink dry spots on chest and back, a few on legs. Several bruises, shins (normal for age), and arms. Yesterday he was playing and said "owie" he did not cry, but was pointing to his upper inner thigh. There was a dark purple bruise about 1.5 inches (oblong) and had a hard knot that stuck up as if there was a marble under the skin. Today the bruise is the same but the knot is less raised, hard with defined edges. I'm worried. What could be going on.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Nose bleeds, bruising, skin spots all can be ascribed to a low platelet count of 92 thousand.
Platelets (thrombocytes) are colorless blood cells that play an important role in blood clotting. Platelets stop blood loss by clumping and forming plugs in blood vessel holes.
If for any reason blood platelet count falls below normal, the condition is called thrombocytopenia.
Normally we have anywhere from 150,000 to 450,000 platelets per microliter of circulating blood.
He needs further blood work to find out the cause of low platelets.
in the mean time he should avoid contact sports, intramuscular jabs, and aspirin containing medicines.
Hope I answered your query.
Will be happy to help if you have any further doubts.
Best regards.
