Child Has Hand And Foot Eczema, Red Blotches. What Causes This?

Hi, my dauthger makes 4yrs old closer to the end of this month october 2012. she has for almost 2yrs now suffering with an intense so called hand and foot eczema . it started off with red bloshes in the skin of her hands and feet and with a tight or tough cover of skin over those affected area and explored to teribble cuts/slashes in the skin especially in the feet. when ever it heal it does so with the tough coverage of skin and start the cracks, cuts and slashes all over. within the finger nail dents for formed with a pickel heat look of little bumps on the fingers and the sides of hands. any idea of what might have caused this reaction? when ever i give her nido milk i tend to beleive the situation gets worse and when i change the milk it gets better. but her allergy test came back nagative for foods and environment. but indicated a high allergic reaction to something else that was not tested for. any idea what i should test her for again. when she eats pinapple, catellope she itches. i don t know what to think please help. serious inquiry, Mrs. Jackman

Pediatrician 's  Response
Dear Mrs jackman i am sorry to hear about the infantile

eczema of your daughter. as you know eczema is not a desease but

disorder. The main triggering factor is allergy which could be many

defferent things like foods, drinks, envioromental factors. It is not

all the time possible to find out the precise trigger factors. Any thing

you finds aggravates her condition just eliminate that from her contact. She should have

aqas cream every day to keep the skin supple. You should consult

Paediatric dermatologist to see her and organise her treatment and

management. She gets her skin infected due to scraching she needs

medications for that. It is good news most of those infantile eczema

disappears when child gets older. Kindest regards Dr. S.K.Mukherjee
