Child Has Fever On And Off. On Advil, Biaxin. Started Vomiting. Have Rashes. Scarlet Fever?
My son is experiencing on & off fever reaching to 39.5 degrees Celsius for about two days which we are giving him Advil 10 ml every 8 hrs and we went to the doctor and he said that his left ear is kinda pink and gave him Biaxin which he instruct us to give him if the symptoms get worst. The next day, he started vomiting and getting rashes all over his face and body which prompt us to go to the hospital. They took a swab test and he and told us to wait for their call if he tested positive on something. Now, is it possible that it could be Scarlet fever or something.
Hi, Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic. Scarlet fever is caused by streptococcus bacteria. In scarlet fever, there will be congestion inside the throat on tonsils and pharynx. But some times viral fevers or drugs which are given may cause drug induced rash which will present like this. If swab test is suggestive of streptococci, then you can think about scarlet fever. Clinical examination also help to diagnose scarlet fever by looking at the typical skin rash, red tongue, and features of exudative pharyngotonsillitis. Continue the medication as advised by the doctor and be in follow up and get the report. Hope I have answered your query. Regards.
