Child Has Fever. Given Paracetamol. Correct Dosage?
HI Doctor.
I have 2 years 3 months old daughter. She got fever around 101. from last night. We already have Paracetamol Oral Suspension at home which was prescibed by doctor when my daughter was 1 yr old. That time prescibed dose was 2.5ml as she was 1 year. Now she is more then 2 years. So, what dose quantity we should give her for this same medicine. should it be same dose 2.5 ml now also? Pls let me know. Thanks You Very much.
Welcome to Health Care Magic Hope you are doing good. In Pediatric practice we don't give medicine by age just we also calculate the weight of the kids + weight and the exact dose of paracetamol in Fever is
4 months to 9 years: Initial Dose: 30 mg/kg Fever is not a disease its an indicator in the body to notify that the kid is having some problem. so do take your kid to your family pediatrician to rule out the cause. I Hope have answered your query. Thanks
I prescribe paracetamol in a dose of 15mg/kg/dose to my patients. As the kid is young get him examined by your doctor once so that the exact cause of fever is arrived at. Please monitor for danger signs. The danger signs are 1. Poor feeding and repeated vomiting. 2. Lethargy. 3. Loss of consciousness. 4. Fits or seizures.
Continue to ask further queries as required. Hope this helps. Take care. Dr Y V Siva Sankara Murty M.D.(Pediatrics) Associate Professor of Pediatrics
