Child Has Brown Mole On The Sclera That Has Not Changed Over The Ears. Can It Be Removed?

Hello, My 12 year old Son has a brown mole in th white of the left eye.. he is very self conscious about it.. we where told is not malignant but I would like to find out if it can be removed... it is flat, brown spot.. has not changed over the years....Can this procedure be done by any general practitioner or should I take him to an Eye surgeon?
