Child Had Hiccups And Started Vomiting. Anything To Worry?
Hi My 2 year old daughter had 4 bouts of hiccups during yesterday morning (a few minutes at a time) she then started vomiting at lunch time (5 times until she went to bed). She got up this morning has drank plenty of water & eaten crumpets but has just got hiccups again. Is this something to be concerned about? Thanks.
Hi
Thank you for your query
It appears that your daughter has a mild case of gastritis or gastroenteritis. She is bloating up after meals, has retching (hiccups) and then vomits. She also may have a mild degree of gastro-esophageal reflux (food in stomach going back to food pipe i.e esophagus). For the moment she will do well with a few days of anatcids and antiemetics like domperidone. Consult a pediatrician or pediatric surgeon for the appropriate prescription. Avoid large volume meals and try to feed her small frequent meals. Try to keep her upright as much as possible. Make her sleep with a pillow. Avoid spicy and junk food. Prefer simple home made foods. Some cooled milk will help. Hope this helps
God bless you
