Child. Have ADHD With ODD. Difficulty Remembering, On And Off Depression And Withdrawal With Intake Of Focalin XR. No Help From Other Medicines. Suggest

My 8 1/2 yr old grandson has ADHD with ODD. He takes 30 mg Focalin XR to go to school since he can't behave. He says he doesn't remember what he is learning, is this true? He is reading better, but also seems very depressed and withdrawn when he take it, won't eat during the day either. We have complained of these symptoms since he began taking it in 1st grade. Other meds don't seem to help. It is so hard to see this lively little guy become so subdued, and "scared". The school insists he take it since they can't control his actions; runs around, won't participate etc.

In ADHD, children have attention deficit which is the cause for lack of concentration and inability to learn things in spite of good intelligence.

Continue the medication as per the advise of his psychiatrist.

The other behaviors like withdrawal, depression should be taken care of by bahavoir modification methods.

I advise you to go for follow up with his psychiatrist to assess his behavior and to advise an appropriate intervention.
