Chances Of Miscarriage Having A Highly Suspected Blighted Ovum?

Hi my name is Vanessa. I recently had an ultrasound done because I started spotting. The report came back highly suspected blighted ovum with a gestational sac measuring 1.8 cm no fetal pole or yolk sac. The reports states 6 weeks 2 days. Is it too early to diagnose mevwith blighted ovum? What if its just too early? What off u haveva tilted uterus and you can't see anything yet? They want me to come back for blood tests to make sure my levels are going down like they should but I haven't had any pain or cramping. Just light bleeding. I don't feel like I am misscarrying. I think its just too early. Am I getting my hopes up or is there any possibility that my baby could show up on a US in a couple weeks??

Hello Vanessa
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
At 6 weeks two days, you should be able to see a fetal pole and yolk sac, even cardiac activity.
So yes, if only a gestational sac with no fetal pole or yolk sac is seen, it is justly being called a blighted ovum.
If you had irregular cycles, or delayed periods, they yes, the dating could be off, and there is a chance that it is too early.
A tilted uterus in no way hampers vision.
Make sure a transvaginal scan was done, transabdominal ones would have more error margins.
Yes, blood tests should confirm it.
Also rarely, there might be no symptoms, and still you would be miscarrying.
That is what is a missed miscarriage or a blighted ovum.
A review scan after a week would be most confirmatory.
All the best.
Take care.

hello,
chances of miscarriage are high in cases of blighted ovum.most of the cases with blighted ovum end with miscarriages.
but if u r very anxious u can wait for 2 more weeks and get a repeat scan done . but chances are rare. and u need not have bleeding or spotting amd pain in early days. bligted ovum is sometimes a scan finding unless u had a misscarriage. usually a patient with blighted ovum is adviced to undergo termination of pregnancy even if she has bleeding or not
