Causes For Swollen Glands In The Face

My son just left the emergency room. They gave him some medicine to take for swollen glands in his face. They asked that he not eat because the saliva may cause increase swelling. It is very cold here. Could the cold weather be the cause or what could you tell me? How can I help him to be comfortable?

Hi , cold weather conditions predispose people to certain viral infections which can involve salivary glands. Eating solid food can precipitate pain but liquids are better tolerated. You can also use warm compressions over the glands which may help in reducing the inflammation. You may see him comfortable with in few days. Hope this helps.
