Can Vitiligo On The Lip Recur On Stopping Medication, If Not, Then What Is This Similar Looking Thing On It?

dear sir.
i have vitiligo on my lower lip and my chest since 6 months back.
i am using cloderm for my chest and 90% healed.
at first when my vitiligo started my lip dried and riped.
now when i use cloderm it becomes smooth and dry but when i stoop cloderm it becomes riped and dry.
is that vitiligo or some other infection? and if there is any solution pls.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

Vitiligo on the lip can present as pinkish or whitish/hypopigmented patch on the labial mucosa.

Lip vitiligo is characteristically resistant to treatment/slow responding as compared to patches on face and trunk.

Various treatment modalities are:
--Topical Steroids
--Topical Tacrolimus
--Topical Basic fibroblast growth factor

When the topical modalities fail or prove ineffective, other options which can be tried are permanent tattoo and skin grafting. I would advice that after a fair trial of topical steroid (4-6 months)that you are using , you should consult with your dermatologist for a review of treatment.

take care
regards
