Can Viral Infection Be Resistant To Antibiotics?

My adult son has had a fever going on three weeks now. He is on a second antibiotic and continues to spike a temperature at night. Only other symptoms is headache with the fever and fatigue. Could it just be a virus and that's why antibiotics are not getting rid of it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi welcome to health care magic...

Here fever and fatigue are main complaints....

Your work up is necessary to search cause as you have three week presentation ,so viral less likely..
-Auscultation and if needed chest x ray
-ASO titre
-Blood culture
-CRP estimation
-Physical examination and liver spleen palpation
-Peripheral smear examination etc...

According to cause further specific treatment can be guided ...

Meanwhile complete the course of antibiotic ..

Advise : Consult physician for examination and further work up

Take care
