Can Varicose Vein Cause Severe Knee Pain?

I have a varicose vein below my left knee running along my shin bone. It bumps out noticeably. I was on my feet in heels for my mother's funeral and now my knee hurts, especially going up and down stairs and walking. Could the varicose vein cause this? Or am I doomed to wear "flats" from now on?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
Yes it is possible if varicose vein is placed in popliteal area under the knee. She should do ultrasound DOppler to see degree of vein changes and then it can be treated appropriately.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
