Can Uterine Fibroid Be Treated Without A Hysterectomy?

My gynecologist is recommending a hysterectomy because I have uterine fibroids. I am 68. I have been having chiropractic adjustments and physical therapy for degenerative disc disease and bulging disc, and it has succeeded beyond my wildest dreams. I am young again, and can do things I haven t been able to do for a long time. I am afraid a hysterectomy would put me back to square one. Is there a better option?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The fibroids, if small, can be easily treated by medical management. So, if the bleeding is less after D & C, then it is more likely that the menstrual irregularities will be normal after Mifepristone.

I will suggest her to continue the medical management for 4-6 months. If no relief is there in this period, then she can go for hysterectomy or surgical removal of the uterus.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein,
