Can Unprotected Intercourse During Periods Cause Any Infection If Neither Person Has An STD?

I came across this quote “Another worry about having sex during your period is the risk of spreading a sexually transmitted infection (STI) like HIV or hepatitis. These viruses live in blood, and they can spread through contact with infected menstrual blood.”
My q is can you still get a disease or infection or bad side effect from unprotected menstrual sex if neither person has an sti or std- like non viral and non-bacterial- like maybe an infection, or anything else- either as the person menstruating or the other person?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If neither of the sexual partners has any STI then there is no risk of passing any STI even with having unprotected sex during a menstural cycle. STDs are only transmitted either through contact with infected genital surfaces or through exchange of infected genital secretions wherein one of the sexual partners has the infection and he or she passes it on to the other sexual partner during intercourse.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
