. I have to take the typhoid pills for a trip I’m going on! But I did not realize that the medicine needed to be refrigerated and has been sitting on my counter for about a week. Is it still OK to take them?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The answer is that it's probably not OK to take them. If you're talking about the oral vaccine then this has to be kept in the refrigerator. If the pills remain at room temperature for more than 12 hours then the contents can be affected and they won't be safe to take afterwards. Therefore you should try to find other pills and keep them under the recommended conditions (temperature between 2 and 8 degrees of Celsius).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi, I took my first typhoid pill on Tuesday evening. Wed. after being out for about 3 hours, I found that my pills had fallen out of the fridge. I put them back in and called the clinic today, but they never got back to me. Should I take the second pill tonight, or just wait and start the series over again? I have 5 weeks until I go overseas, so there is a bit more time left. I am 33 years old, healthy, 5 4 ,, 120 lbs. Thanks! Julianne
Some people said the live typhoid vaccine pills can be outside the fridge for a few hours, but others say if that happens they should discarded. I got my pills at the drugstore and it was about 3 hours before I got home and put them in the fridge. Are the pills good or no good?
