Can Tonsillitis Cause Throat Dysphagia With Acute Pain?

I have a very ad stabbing sensation in the back of my throat. Every time I swallow, the pain reaches its worst. I was recently diagnosed with tonsulitis, but have been taking medication for it. The pain is starting to travel to me left ear. What do I do? Should I go to ER?
