Can Tongue Swell Or Become Bigger?

I seem to be more conscious of my tongue being wider. I make a conscious effort to pull it back towards the back of my throat. I find the sides of my tongue coming between the upper teeth & lower teeth on both sides of my mouth. As an adult, can your tongue swell slightly or get bigger?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain the most common cause of swelling of the tongue is Allergic reaction to either any medication or food products or any irritant present in air like pollen, animal danders etc..

You should consult a Physician and get evaluated and get an evaluation done.
If allergic reaction is suspected a blood test can be advised to you that can help in diagnosing the allergen as the antibodies are formed in the body as a part of body's defence mechanism to fight against and allergen or irritant..

The antibodies if found help in diagnosing the exact cause of the swelling..

The best way to prevent an allergic reaction is to prevent exposure to allergen..

By the time you get to know the cause, if you experience swollen tongue you can take Cetrizine or fexofenadine [allegra].

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
