Can Thyroid Cause Spasm In Oesophagus And Stomach?

Periodicly I have esophagus spasms, pain in my chest and upper abdomen, feeling like a heart attack, with pain radiating into my jaw. I am also hoarse, fatigued, can't sleep, depressed and have thinning hair. My doctor says my thyroid blood tests are borderline and don't require medication Years ago I had a cyst on my thyroid and took synthroid but ran out of money so I stopped taking it. Any heart trouble has been ruled out. I also have stomach spasms. Is it my thyroid? What should I do? Thanks.

Hi,

Your symptoms may not be related your thyroid. If your thyroid function tests are normal you need not take synthyroid or any other medications for thyroid.

Do you have a swelling in neck? If you have it can cause pain in neck or difficulty in swallowing.

Stomach spasm and chest pain may be related to gastritis. I would suggest you to take plenty of water, avoid fatty, spicy foods and more importantly taking food at correct timings. If it is not improving try some antacids after consulting a doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help

With warm regards,
Dr Ajish TP (MD,DM)
