Can Thickening Of Gall Bladder Wall Cause Leg Pain?

My husband went to the hospital last Sunday with terrible leg pain. He had ultrasound of his legs and I believe that did a songagram (sp) of his stomach and chest area. The next day that informed us that his bladder show a thickening in the wall(no infection, no gall stones and he had no pain in that area). They did a Hida scan the next day. According to the surgeon he said the two scans showed a different appearance of the gall bladder. One showing ok and other a thickening. My question is how do u go to the hospital with leg pain and end up having your gall bladder removed. I asked his primary doctor and his heart doctor any connection and they were floored that was the conclusion of the doctor. Please make me understand what on earth happened. Believe me I questioned the surgery team, the medical doctors in the hospital before the procedure. My gut told me STOP but they went ahead and took it out. The other medical situation he is having is he just began dialysis a few day before and it was unsuccessful by fiscula so they inserted a cath in his chest for now. Could all of this trauma made it appear that his gall bladder was bad. He didn t have any pain associated with gall bladder.. Thank u!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and thank you for asking HCM.

I am going to be honest with you. I have spent a lot of minutes to read, and reread, and than reread and i can't understand why they removed the gallbladder? I am sorry, I am a surgeon and I can't find ANY reason to do the surgery. There is no connection at all between the gall bladder and the leg, trust me.

-According to the surgeon he said the two scans showed a different appearance of the gall bladder. One showing ok and other a thickening. If the walls of the gall bladder get thicker, it usually means infection (cholecystitis) and the patient feels a lot of pain under his ribs, in the right side and near the stomach. Also the blood test will show elevated level of white blood cells, change in the liver enzymes ect. Also MRI and ultrasound are perfect to study the gall bladder. If doctors are still insecure about it,they can do an Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). Ideal for gall bladder and the hepatic ducts.

They suspected tumor of the gall bladder? Still,he needed to do these tests, (MRI,UES)

As i said,I am sorry to inform you, that for my experience I can't find a reason to do the surgery. That is my opinion since the only symptom your husband had was a pain in his leg.

Anyway,it would be a great help if you send me the medical reports of your husband.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
