Can The Mastoid Pain Be A Symptom Of Frequent Recurrent Migraines ?

I have had frequent recurrent migraines for over a decade (lately about 1 or 2 per week) which I treat fairly successfully with Relpax 40 mg. In the past year the migraines seem to be triggered by sinus/allergy symptoms and my left mastoid is quite painful to touch. My lymph nodes on both sides are also swollen, but I have no fever. I have a history of TMJ symptoms for which I always wear a night splint, and I have been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, Fibromyalgia, and persistent Lyme disease. I do NOT seek pain medications, and really don't tolerate meds. I only take Armour Thyroid 15 mg daily and use Vivelle Dot estrogen patches since hysterectomy/oophorectomy in 1997. Can the mastoid pain be a symptom of migraine or should I see a specialist to rule out sinus/mastoid infection? Thank you

Hi and thanks for the query,
I am afraid the mastoid pain would need to be precised. It is very important in this case, considering the lymph nodes being swollen to exclude an infection of nearby structures like the inner ears, the sinusis and the throat, and also the exclude a tumor of the ear nose, throat regions before thinking of migraine, which is unlikely in this case. A clinical review by an ENt specialist, X rays and head CT scans could be of help. In some instances, a biopsy of the lymph nodes could be useful. Thanks and kind regards
