Can The Low Blood Sodium Level Be Hereditary?

My Mom has been diagnosed with low sodium and I have been told the same thing. She is 79 and I am 57. Is it hereditary? I have two sisters younger than me and just want to be aware. This is now a big concern for doctors. The doctor wanted my Mom notified and the police got involved. Crazy.

Hi
Thanks for your query.
Based on your query my opinion is
1. Causes of Low sodium levels can be hereditary.
2. Genetic mutations resulting in low aldosterone/ cortisol can cause low sodium.
3. However more common causes like fluid overload, excess exercise can cause lowered serum sodium.
Hope this helps
