Can The Childhood Diagnosis Of Bipolar Disorder Be Reversed?

Can a diagnosis of childhood bipolar nos be reversed? My son was diagnosed at the age of 10 and put on psychotropic drugs meant for adults. The psychiatrist looked at him on the first visit and said to us that he could tell just by looking at him that he had the disease. We were referred to this doctor by an LCSW who had our son in therapy for anger management. At 17 our son went off all medication and has been perfectly healthy since. He is 26 and the diagnosis is affecting many of his job opportunites. He was considered a rapid cycler and never had episodic events. What can he do now?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is very difficult to say about the reversal of bipolar disorder as it has a chronic course, but the better part is that it is maintained at present.

Continuous medications with regular follow up with the psychiatrist periodic evaluation via necessary tests are mandatory for him.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
