Can Thalassemia Minor Be Transmitted To An Unborn?
Hi I am a 30 years old man. My girl friend suffer from talasemi minor and I am normal. We want to get married. I want to know that is there any way to prevent of having the child with this problem. and if not the children with this problem could be normal; for example, they can do physical activities just same as the normal person? Regards
if you don't carry any defective thalassemia genes then the worst scenario for your children would be a condition like your girl friend's, that is thalassemia minor. Thalassemia minor causes a very mild chronic anemia that won't prevent individuals from engaging into physical activities. If you're having one defective gene though, then caution is adviced because then you would have a 25% chance of having a child with a really serious problem (thalassemia major). I hope I've helped! If you'd like further information on this, please let me know and I'll be glad to answer.
