Can Taking Hydrocodone/APAP 5/325 Be Safe For Dementia?

My mom is 86 years old and has been suffering with dementia along with other things for the past 10 years and is now on Hospice and to deal with her pain was just increased to Hydrocodone/APAP 5/325 every 6 hours. Is this going to make her lathargic?

Hi,

Hydrocodone acetaminophen 5/325 is an opioid analgesic and antitussive (cough suppressant) that is combined with acetaminophen and used to treat moderate to fairly severe pain. It should be used with caution in elderly or debilitated patients and those with severe impairment of hepatic or renal function, hypothyroidism, Addison’s disease. The usual precautions should be observed and the possibility of respiratory depression should be kept in mind. Since 5 325 is among lowest doses, there is not much to worry if liver and kidney functions are normal.
