Can Taking Flagyl Be Safe For Bacterial Vaginosis?
hi, i was prescriped flagyl 400 mg 3 times a day to treat a bv infection being tracked by my final smear test result. on my second day taking flagyl i noticed some pinkish wiping when i went to the bathroom but happened only once, then had spotting like brownish in colour but very litte not even enough to fill a panty liner per day for to days and got clear again right afterwards. i also noted that when spotting on panty liner was present my wiping was totally clean.... i sent my doctor and asked if this could have been implantation and she said if so go down for two tablets a day as they might give you nausea. this kind of spotting occured on day 12 past ovulation.... as per calculated by ov tests. is it some kind of a side effect from flagyl or did i indeed have implantation ? am so worried as if im pregnant im afraid fllagyl might have been harmful on fetus :( today is my 30th day from last cycle and still nothing.... when is it best to test ?

First of all, I want to reassure you that Flagyl is safe to use during pregnancy. So no matter what is going on with your cycle currently, the antibiotics that you were prescribed do not have to be changed in dose if you happen to conceive this cycle. Furthermore, in order for drugs have an effect on the fetus there needs to actually be a fetus present, and again if you just conceived there is no way for the drug to have any effect that could cause birth defects are ready other pregnancy abnormality.
Secondly, is unusual to have blood-tinged discharged when you have a vaginal infection due to the irritation in the upper part of your vagina near cervix. This is especially true if your do to get your menstrual period soon.
Thirdly, if you were to have implantation bleeding, it would have occurred within five days of conception, which means that 12 days since your ovulation is not a time that is consistent with implantation. Feeling nauseous is not an unusual side effect from the medication itself.
So in your case, I recommend that you continue and finish your Flagyl medication as prescribed at the original dose. Your symptoms of spotting are likely due to the bacterial infection itself and have nothing to do with pregnancy.
If you desire, a pregnancy test that can be performed over-the-counter would be accurate at this time as at least 10 days of gone by since the theoretical time of conception.
