Can Stress Cause Headaches With Associated Unilateral Facial Numbness?

40 y/o female. New onset headaches with associated unilateral facial numbness. No vomiting, photophobia or debilitating pain, just a dull throbbing daily with the numbness. Saw a neurologist who suspects complicated migraine that is precipitated by stress, but results of MRI are pending. Normal BP and no significant health history besides juvenile rheumatoid arthritis that has been in remission for 20 years. Could stress really cause these symptoms? I've had a very high stress lifestyle since becoming an adult...why now???

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

Yes, stress can cause headaches, however, facial numbness is unusual with stress alone.

Therefore, i would keenly wait for MRI brain report to come out. Considering that you are a young female, I would like to exclude multiple sclerosis and vasculitis as causes for your symptoms.

There is no need to worry as you would improve with proper medications.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
