Hi I have been suffering for many years with a chronic pain due to a neck injury I attended a pain clinic which made it clear that talking about the pain was a no no .I have many more symptoms now that I have been embarrassed about. It appears I may have Fibromyalgia which so matches all my symptoms I have become used to having a couple of wines at night to help relax and using it as a pain relief .Now I am on cymbalta only 5 days my dr is really full on about no alcohol at all ? is she over reacting ?
There are two reasons why your doctor is not allowing you for alcohol. First alcohol in form is harmful overall to the body in many aspects when it is not taken with strict control and understanding. So for any patient even I would like to tell no to alcohol. Second reason is that you are taking alcohol for pain relief and relaxation.Actually considering your diagnosis fibromyalgia, your pain is just relived superficially by alcohol like putting a curtain on something to avoid contact. It actually worsen inner pathology of pain rather than correcting it. It has no relation directly with duloxetine(cymbalta) you taking. But if you continue alcohol , it is difficult to judge that your pain relief is due to alcohol or thorough medicine. So please follow your doctor's guidance.
