Can Smoking Worsen Heart Problem And Lead To Endocarditis?
i have had a heart problem since i was born because i was born three months early and lived. I have had to go to the hospital for scans ect do see if the valve has thickened or got better, it always remains the same, although if it gets worse it could turn into endocarditis, the only thing is that i have been smoking for two years now, will smoking effect my condition?
Just no. Endocarditis is an infection of the heart valve. Putting things into your veins...really really really bad. Frankly putting things in your mouth (dental work) or butt (colonoscopy) are also potentially bad and we usually have people take antibiotics to prevent endocarditis under these circumstances. Putting things in the lung not bad
Endocarditis is when the heart valve gets infected. While smoking does NOT infect the heart valve, the strain on the heart from smoking will cause the valves to wear faster, become roughened and more likley to have bacteria stick to them. AND heart valves control blood flow; damage to them will make the heart work harder and have less pumping ability.
