Can Smelling Stools And Irritable Stomach Caused From Malaria And Giardia?

Foul Smelling Stool + Irritable stomach (e.g. like sandpapered after a beer). This has been an issue for many years and thought it maybe associated with Ank. Spondylitis and use of Anti In flams between 1990 and 2004. But has continued in milder form to this day so wonder if Liver or Pancreas issue? Recently low appetite + four days to recover from 4 bottles of beer (hollow feeling afterwards). Also have dry mouth with funny taste in it (slightly numb tongue and bitter taste in mouth). Have started taking probiotics (3 months ago) and have not eaten food with starch for 5months (to put on hold an Ank Spond flare up last August), this maybe inter-related. Have had malaria and Giardia in the past so have wondered whether this is causing an issue. What tests would you recommend to assess what is going on? Thanks

Hi.
Thanks for your query.,
Noted the history of foul smelling stool and irritable stomach for many years - also has ankylosing spondilitis and use of anti-inflammatory between 1990 - 2004 - wonders whether pancreas or liver issue - dry mouth with funny taste - on probiotics - no starch in food - had malaria and giardia in past so wondering whether connected to the problems...
As per the detailed history you have provided, it is possible that there may be recurrence of infections which you have mentioned.
I would advise the following in such a situation:
- Get the stool test for three consecutive days.
- get a course of an antibiotic active against intestinal infection, Metronidazole, dewormin.
- Continue probiotics and multivitamins to be started.
- Make a list of foods and beverages that instigate or enhance the problems and stop them altogether.
I find this answer helpful
