Can Shots Taken In The Knees Can Cause Brittle Bones Or Cancer In Future?

i have osteoarthritis in my knees, shoulders, ankles, back, hips, and elbow, I've taken several shots over the past5 years. this year I was only given shots in my knees, (since moving to Florida) what i did notice that i had lest pain in my other joints, i also noticed know the shots are wearing off the pain in the rest of my body is returning Is that because medicine the medicine although administered in on particular spot, it travels to other parts of the body. Also I had two relatives who were taking the cortisone shots develop brittle bones, that constantly broke, is that a side effect of the shot some type of cancer, they both died from it

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi
After going through your query my advice would be-only three injection a year is recommended. As far as chances of cancer and brittle bone is concerned it's incidence does not increase with injection,so be at ease.
My advice would be- take diet rich in calcium and vitamin D ,regular excercises along with bisphophonate(under medical supervision) to take care of age related osteoporosis.
Take care and i shall be glad to help you if you have any further query.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. Dr. Naveen Kumar Sharma's  Response
Taking multiple steroid injection in joints can make bones weak and that can leads to fractures. I would recommend you to start taking calcium and vitamin D and do not take any more shots. Taking steroid shot is not produce cancer as you are thinking.
