Can Pulmonary Embolism Pain Be Sporadic?

Can pulmonary embolism pain be sporadic? I have had a history of PE and DVT, over 4 PE s and 7 DVT s in my lifetime, I am only 28 with no known clotting disorder (labwork turns out negative - every time.) I had an IVC filter at one time and it fractured inside me, one piece preforated my heart and lodged in my lung from what I was told. Because of my history, everytime I mention chest pain they send me to the ER for a cat scan, medical bills, radiation, and stress is just accumulating. I am on blood thinner, but recently been experiencing on and off chest pain, doesn t feel like clots in the past. It comes and goes and is very inconsistant, is this possible with a PE?

Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, the previous history of pulmonary embolism does not mandate threat of the same while on blood thinner.

* The sporadic pain goes beyond the possibility on clinical grounds and hence you should discuss the actal need of repeated scan with your doc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
