Can Psychological Factors Cause Anorexia And Bulimia?

I don t think I have an eating disorder, but I have looked up the symptoms for anorexia and bulimia and I have a few of them, but I m not sure if that s normal at age 18? MY BMI is fine, I am roughly 5 3 height and 7st 7lb in weight, which is considered a healthy weight. Is it possible to have the psychological effects of eating disorders and not the physical? I mean I have some physical factors associated with eating disorders, but the way I feel affects those so is there a way I can stop wanting to be thinner?

Hi,
yes, psychological factors are very crucial in causation of eating disorders.
An eating disorder is characterised by morbid preoccupation regarding ones appearance esp. body weight, despite of being normal.
Binge eating behaviour, associated with guilt and use of purgatives to induce vomiting.
Pathological anorexia despite of subnormal weight.
these are some features suggestive of eating disorder.
If you feel you suffer from any of these, in such case it is advisable to consult a psychiatrist.

welcome for the further queries.
your information regarding weight, eating plan, age, etc will certainly help to give you precise opinion.
