Can Prescription Drug Dependence Cause Other Health Issues?

Dear Dr I am having metpure xl 25 tabs and rozavel5 for controlling my bp/cholestrol. I am 46 with bp parameter at 110/75 in the morning and 120/88 in the evenings. I exercise regularly and my cholestrol readings are all normal. . The other day I missed my daily metpure xl 25 dose which is to be had at 8pm. I woke up with a weighty head the next morning and my bp reading showed 133/76. Not knowing that I missed the tabs I exercised as usual but could not complete it due to unusual giddiness. I stopped it immediately and checked my pressure which was 148/82. I was puzzled and came to know that I missed the bp tablet the last night. What I am worried is -1- Has my dependence on this medicine become so vital or is it due to any other issues. I am scared of the side effects of the bp tablets too which I am having from since 6 years. My doctor has changed the medicines quite often - from aten to something else and then to metpurexl 25. regards dipak

Hi,

Blood pressure is the measurement of pressure exerted on the walls of blood vessels. It should be maintained normally for better life. Side effects of the high blood pressure are heart attack, angina and stroke. Increased blood pressure causes giddiness, headache and several other uncomfortable symptoms.

Metapure xl 25 is the drug that reduces blood pressure belongs to a group of drugs called Beta blockers. It contains Metaprolol as its composition. The drug should be taken as per advise of your doctor for proper control of BP. If the dose is missed, take the drug as soon as you remember to avoid unwanted symptoms due to increased blood pressure.

Giddiness you suffered is mainly due to increased blood pressure because of the missed dose of anti-hypertensives. It should be controlled with your medication. If it not subsides even after the medicine, visit the physician for further management.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
