Can Periods Accompany With Pregnancy?

Hello,
I have had unprotected sex with my other half on the 21st & 25th and we do not mind if we conceive a child. My period is suppose to start on the 28th of this month and I have had spotting the the 28th & 29th. Today this morning a had light bleeding but it is only when I urinate, which seem like it is my period. My period is aways accurate and flows right. But this seem like I could be pregnant. I was told too that I could have my period and be pregnant. I have taken a digital pregnancy test in the morning and the results were blank. I have taken another test in the afternoon and it was negative, but I was told it could be earlier to detect. But my question would be could i be pregnant even with the chance of my period and the negative test? Was i taking the HPT to early?

Hello ma'am and welcome.

Period is the shedding of the inner lining of the uterus called the endometrium. The endometrium helps with implantation of the fertilized ovum onto the uterus. If you were to have your period, it would result in expulsion of this fertilized ovum.

So the answer is No. You cannot have your period during pregnancy. The bleeding or spotting seen during pregnancy could be normal or related to an abnormality (eg. Threatened abortion).

Pregnancy home tests should be conducted at least 2 weeks after the suspected date of conceptipn or on or after the 2nd day of a missed period. Some women can return a negative result until 3 months into pregnancy. So you can return a negative result, it is normal for this to happen during yhe first trimester of pregnancy, although not always.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
