Can Period Be Stopped With Norethisterone Tablets Once It Has Started?

Hi my period is over a week early and I want to delay it for a special event. I have some norethisterone tablets which I have used in the past to delay my period. I know that you are supposed to start taking them a couple of days before your period starts to delay but what happens if you start them when you first start spotting, will it stop it and then delay it?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Once the period starts, it is mostly ineffective to take progesterone tablets.

To assess if the pills would still work, consult your gynecologist who would assess the endometrium and then guide you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Aarti Abraham
