Can Percocet Taken For Pain Management Cause Gastroparesis?

I was just recently diagnosed with gastroparesis(spelling). I am not diabetic. I have been on low dose pain management for about 3 years taking Percocet 5 mg. twice daily or as needed. Would this cause it and how come others who are on serious pain management drugs that I know haven t contracted this. Is it just my system...the way God made me....and is it irreversible or can my system heal? Please help. I am truly bummed out. Thank you.

Percocet (acetaminophen/oxycodone) is highly unlikely yo be the reason for your gastroparesis. It is most likely idiopathic where the reason cannot be attributed to anything specific.
The treatment of this condition is mainly symptomatic. Medications and dietary modifications like avoiding fatty foods and having small frequent meals can help in mild - moderate gastroparesis. If severe, then surgical options can be explored. It's not likely that it is reversible but can be effectively controlled even with only dietary modifications in some cases.
You can discuss the above points with your gastroenterologist. Hope this helps. Thanks.
