Can Over Dose Of Medicine Cause Heat In Body?

I have hypothyroidism. I take Thyroxine, usually at a dose of 50mcg 1 day and 100mcg the next (alternating), as originally prescribed by my GP. When I went to the chemist to fill my script for this again (16/12/11), the dosage by the Pharmacist was typed in as 1 1/2 tablets daily ie 150mcg. I took this literally for some reason and have for the past few weeks feeling very hot (even in cooler weather), and not able to sleep properly due to feeling hot. I have since gone back to my usual dosage and plan to see my GP this week to clarify. I suspect that I have been feeling the heat more due this increase dose. Your thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

If you've been taking 150 mcg each day then you have essentially doubled the dosage suggested by your GP! Taking too much Thyroxine usually causes a faster than usual heart rate, sweating, nervousness, weight loss, etc and most patients feel hot as well. The right dosage for you (according to your GP's advice) is 75 mcg per day.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
