Can One With Plaque Buildup In Artery Safely Avoid Lipitor To Prevent Migraines?
My doctor has recently prescribed Lipitor for a slight plaque buildup in my right carotid artery. I suffer from chronic migraine headaches (am getting an assortment of treatments); the Lipitor (which I took several years ago) makes the migraines more severe. I read that 10% of people have migraines with Lipitor. I think I m going to stop taking it. My cholesterol is high normal (180-200).

Can One With Plaque Buildup In Artery Safely Avoid Lipitor To Prevent Migraines?
Hello, I think you need to take lipid-lowering medications because of carotid plaque you have elevated cholesterol levels. Lipitor is a primary line anti lipid medication but if it causes headache to you your doctor can give fibrate medications to you like gemfibrozil. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr Olgeta Xhufka , General & Family Physician
