Can One Take Duphaston While Suffering From Fibroadenoma In Breast?

Dear doctor- I was prescribed duphaston for just a short period of time (17 days), I have not started takng it yet. I got it in order to avoid having a period during my engagement trip to paris. The doctor said it was safe, however- I have a strong history of hormonal breast cancer in my family (mother+grandmother) and I myself have a benign fibroadenoma in my breast. Can I take this drug? does it have any associated breast cancer risks? also what are the common side effects and does it interact with ixel?

Hello,

Duphaston Tablet is a synthetic progestogen and has a similar action to the female hormone, progesterone.

It is used to treat menstrual disorders in women caused due to a lack of hormones.

It is also used to reduce the risk of miscarriages or abortions. This medicine is not recommended for use in patients below 18 years of age.

The Side effects are nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, dry mouth, indigestion, rash breast pai, depression, difficulty in falling asleep etc.

But I think that 17 days, is a short period, so you can take Duphaston. The breast risk is frequent when this medication is taken for a longer period. This medication doesn't interact with ixel. They help each other.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Sonela Suxho, Pathologist and Microbiologist
