Can One Sip Of Wine Or Stress Cause Pain Below The Ribs And Stomach?

Hi, I have had three children in the last six years, each have been breast fed each for 12 months. I have not consumed any alcohol over this time. I recently decided to have a wine with dinner the other night. I took one sip and could feel the drink go straight down and almost immediately had a uncomfortable ache in my stomach not my lower stomach but more below my my ribs in the middle, top of stomach. It wasn t extremely painful more uncomfortable for about on hour or so. I didn t have anymore of the wine and drank a couple of glasses of water instead. Sometimes when I am stressed I get this ache. I have had a lot of stress in my life over the past 2 years. With an unwell daughter, husband loss of work, new house etc...... This discomfort worried me? I do notice when I sit down and am not doing anything I find the ache is there all the time just not as enlighten. I tolerate it. When I m busy I don t notice it at all. Any suggestions.?

Thanks for your question on HCM.
In my opinion you are having GERD ( Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease ).
It is due to laxity of gastroesophageal sphincter. Because of this the acid of the stomach tends to come up in the esophagus and cause the symptoms.
Your discomfort is associated with stress and intake of wine which also favours diagnosis of GERD.
So try to follow these steps for better symptomatic relief.
1. Avoid hot and spicy food.
2. Avoid large meals, instead take frequent small meals.
3. Avoid stress and anxiety.
4. Start proton pump inhibitor.
5. Go for walk after meals.
6. Keep 2 - 3 pillows under head in the bed.
7. Avoid smoking and alcohol if you have this habit.
8. Loose weight if you are obese.
