Can One Intake Medicines For Cough Before An Endoscopy?

Hi, I am to have an endoscopy on Monday, I have at present got a cough and a sore throat, this is handleable using common of the shelf remedies. I am sure i can go without any medication ( I am not coughing up infected phlegm but some clear phlegm ) for the six hours required but may start to cough a little during the process. Do you think I would be aright to go ahead with the proceeder. I really want to have it done as I am going on holiday the next day and don t want to delay my exam any longer than possible. thanks Doug.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Possibility of viral upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) is more.
And it will mostly heal by itself in 5-7 days.
So if you can manage your cough without medicines then no need to take drugs.
But if you want to take cough medicines, you can take. No harm in it. This won't interfere in your endoscopy.
So if you don't have much cough then no need to take anything. Also do following things for better and quick relief in URTI.
Drink plenty of fluids orally and keep your self hydrated. Do warm water gargles 5-6 times a day. Avoid oily and spicy food. Take sound sleep of 6-8 hours.
Don't worry, you will be alright.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
