Can Old Scar Of Appendectomy Causes Pain And Inflammation?

I have a 18 year old scar on my abdomen that runs from my belly button down due to an appendectomy when I was 12. I woke up two days ago with pain in the lower right quadrant of my abdomen and on the scar there is a sore that has a weird smell its red with inflammation and it looks like pus may becoming out of it.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to an infection of the incision.

I suggest to clean the incision and apply an antibiotic cream.

I also suggest covering with a clean bandage.

If the symptoms continue, I suggest consulting your physician.

Oral antibiotics may be needed to treat the infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
