Hello doctor, Iam segmental vitiligo patient. I have developed vitiligo when I was in 2nd standard and it have spread till 1998 (till my 8th standard) and it stopped spreading and these patches are my face itself (on left side of my face near my lips( that s it as it did not spread further I under went UV-B treatment for 6 months and as there was no change I have undergone punch grafting in the effected region in 2009 and left the treatment completely. 1) now 2 days ago I have seen a vitiligo spot near my left ear and wish to start Melgain lotion but the problem is I am 4 months pregnant so I am not sure whether I can take this or not. kindly suggest me whether can I use it or not. Does it gonna have any adverse effect on my baby. 2) I can say that I have 10% of my face affected by vitiligo is there any chance that my baby will have vilitigo neither my husband, parents, brother and his parents have vitiligo. Hi,
Thanks for the query.
1.Megalin lotion belongs to category C drugs in pregnancy according to FDA.
Means animal studies have demonstrated some possible risk to the fetus but sufficient human studies are lacking.
So it should be used only when the benefits overweight the risks.
Discuss this with your doctor and follow her advice.
2. Vitiligo is an acquired disorder.
It is very rare to have congenital vitiligo.
So, possibly your baby may not get affected with this.
You can continue your regular medications.
Regular antenatal checkups and ultrasound examinations are needed.
Take care.
