Can Medicines Taking For Diabetes, High Blood Pressure And Anxiety Cause Chronic Cough?

My brother is 58 years old and lives with me. He has diabetes and high blood pressure along with anxiety. He takes meds for all of these conditions. Can any possible meds cause a chronic cough? He is constantly coughing; a dry cough. When I say constantly I mean every 15 to 30 seconds. It seems to be worse when he goes to bed at night though I have only heard him one night and it was every 15 seconds. During the day it is about every 30 seconds. Please advise.

Dear Friend.
Nice to see your concern for your brother.

Yes, a few blood pressure medications can cause dry cough specially , ACE Inhibitor Group , like Enalapril , Ramipril. They very commonly cause dry cough.

Other group which can cause cough is Beta Blockers like Atenolol , sometimes metoprolol too. But they usually produce cough in people who have respiratory problems like Asthma.

He may require drug or dose modification , if he is taking any of the other drugs.

Stay healthy
