Can Medication For Seizure Be Stopped After A Seizure Free Period Of 2 Years?

I have a daughter who is 6years old. She has seizure twice within 2weeks in August 2012 and was prescribed Tegretol (carbamazepine). I was told she will have to take the medication for two years. She will have to stop taking the medication if she didnt have any seizure within the 2years of taken the medication.
I would like to know if she can stop taking the medication once she didnt get the attack within the specified time. She already fed up with the medication. Moreover, I would like to know the future implication of experiencing seizure in early age of ones life. Thanks.

You should check with the pediatrician or neurologist who may be following her with her refills and ask them if, in their opinion, your girl may stop the medications. I would not simply stop the medication without checking with a specialist. She may revert to having seizures or other complications. If she can be successfully taken off the drug and not have any other episodes of seizures then, her risk for anything in the future will be greatly reduced but it will probably NEVER go down to zero simply because she's been diagnosed in all probability with EPILEPSY...and this is considered to be an incurable disorder. It can go into remission but it never been entirely cured.
