General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Lung cancer per say does not cause kidney problems. It will only affect its function if the cancer metastasizes and involves kidney tissue.
The reason why your kidney dysfunction has taken place is because of the chemotherapeutic drugs. They are highly cytotoxic and have side effects affecting vital organs like liver and kidneys.
However, functioning of kidneys will restore to near normal again over a period of time. You need to consume plenty of fluids so that these chemo drugs gets metabolized and excreted in urine and wouldn't cause any damage to other tissues.
Hence, you are asked to come after a week so that during this period, the kidney functions would have been restored to normal. If in this stage, chemo would have been given, kidneys would have an acute insult and may fail completely.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
Wishing you the best for speedy and complete recovery.
