Can Low Iron Levels In Children Cause Epilepsy?
Hi. A friend of my son's has suddenly started having seizures. She has had ECG's but no epilepsy showed up. She was treated for worms, which she did have, but the seizures have not stopped. My brother died at the age of six - he had uncontrolable epilepsy back in the seventies. My mom mentioned that iron could be a problem. Could low iron levels cause seizures in children (aged 4)? Should she be given iron supplements if she is on epilinz? A homeopath did say she was a bit anemic but no blood test were done.

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.
The iron levels in itself do not cause seizures, they are not the cause. However if there is indeed anemia the cause should be investigated. Anemia may have many different causes, not only related to iron. It may be in the setting on another condition which may also cause seizures. So you should ask the doctor whether there is indeed anemia on blood tests and if so the suggested cause.
