Can Low Iron Count Cause Lip Swelling During Menstrual Cycle?

Last month, for the first time, I woke up with extreme swelling in my lips. I thought I had an allergic reaction to some lip gloss so I started taking done Benadryl and I put a&d ointment on my lips to help relieve the pain. After about a week the swelling stopped. It is now happening again and I haven t used any lip gloss since!!! The only thing I can think of is that it had happened both times during my menstrual cycle. I know that I run low iron during this time, almost to the point of anemia. Could this be related to my lip swelling? Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Yes, low hemoglobin in iron deficiency can cause the tongue to become pale, while lower levels of myoglobin can cause it to become sore, smooth and swollen. Iron deficiency can also cause dry mouth, sore red cracks at the corners of the mouth or mouth ulcers. Kindly undergo a complete blood count for further management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
