Can Lithium Compounded Cream Cause Chest Pain?

I m 23 years old and have been taking lithium for more than 6 weeks. Because of the side effects of the oral meds, my doctor had the lithium compounded into a cream for me to rub into my arms. I m still really nauseous and I now have chest pain and pain and tingling in my left arm. Could this be from the meds?

Hi

Lithium in the form of creams may not cause such serious side effects.I would suggest you to take an Ecg/ECHO to evaluate your cardiac status.

Lithium may cause cardiac side effects rarely but only on overdose.
Lithium induced bradycardia can occur as a rare and serious side effect.

Lithium overdose can be associated with cardiac toxicity, especially in those with underlying heart disease. Simple ECG disorders to dysrhythmias, cardiomyopathy and even acute myocardial infarction may occur.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
